Child Care provider recognition: Child care providers are being honored at a special dinner event on Thursday, May 27, from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at San Juan Oaks Golf Club, Highway 156 at Union Road. Registration is from 6 to 6:30 p.m. The keynote speaker will be Dr. Bill Michaelis, professor at San Francisco State University and director of Children Together, an international leadership training organization. Admission is free for licensed child care providers and $10 for guests.

BYGONE YEARS MEMBERS: A monthly general membership meeting will be held from 7-10 p.m. Thursday, May 27 at Granville Hall. A social hour will begin at 6 p.m.

SPECIAL TRIBUTE: The San Benito Post 69 of the American Legion will host a special tribute to World War II veterans and widowed spouses beginning at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 29 in the Veterans Memorial Building. a Tri-Tip lunch will be served from noon to 3 p.m. with a $10 per plate donation. STATE ART FAIR: The California Exposition & State Fair is now accepting entries for California Fine Art, one of the largest and oldest art competitions in the state. The California State Fair and special donor organizations offer more than $15,000 in award money. Award amounts range from $40 to $500.

Annual Festival: The Portuguese Society of the Holy Ghost of Hollister will have its annual festival weekend May 29 and 30. A dance will be held at 9 p.m. Saturday, May 29 at the Portuguese Hall at 695 Seventh St. A parade will leave the Hall for Sacred Heart Church at 10 a.m. Sunday May 30 for an 11:15 a.m. Mass. RELAY FOR LIFE: A Team Captain’s Meeting will be held from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at Paine’s Restaurant on June 2 and June 23.

HOUSE AND GARDEN TOUR: The first annual “Let’s be Friends” House and Garden Tour will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday, June 3 throughout Hollister. saddle horse parade: The Saddle Horse Parade is still looking for participants. We accept walkers, cars, bands, trucks, floats, etc. If you are interested in being a Parade participant, applications are available at the San Benito County Chamber of Commerce office at 650 San Benito St., Suite 130, #637-5315. Fees are $25 for a single entry or $40 for a double entry. The theme is circa 1800 Western. The deadline for entry is Friday, June 4. Don’t miss the parade on Thursday, June 24 at 6 p.m. in downtown Hollister.

P.J. GALVAN ALUMNI CLASSIC: For the first time in Baler Baseball history, Varsity baseball will hold an alumni game between former players and the current 2004 varsity squad at 7 p.m. June 5 at the Vet’s Park on Babe Ruth field. The evening will include raffle prizes, barbeque and snack bar. Admission is $5 for adults, $3 for children and students and tickets will be sold at the door.

Host families needed: Bring home the world by hosting a foreign exchange high school student for a semester or school year. The students come with their own spending money and are insured. They are eager to share their culture and customs with you while learning about your family’s traditions. Kidz Kamp: Summer is right around the corner and the Kidz Kamp Unlimited is preparing to begin. They are offering a full schedule of weekly themes and once a week field trips in or out of town, crafts, games and enriched experiences in music, theater, dance and creative arts. The camp will start June 13 and end Aug. 21. Kool Kidz Kamp hours will be from 9 to 4 p.m. (extended care is available for no extra charge from 6 to 9 a.m. and 4 to 6 p.m.).
