The Hollister 15-year-old California Lookouts travelling baseball team has a habit of finishing second in tournaments, but it is a habit that the team wants to break.

During both of the tournaments the team has been in this year, they have come home with second-place trophies.

Most recently was a runner-up finish last weekend in the Fourth of July Classic in Sacramento. In their first tournament this year in Elk Grove, the Lookouts also finished in second.

The team, which has eight players from Hollister, was formed just this year and practices at Anzar High School.

The Lookouts finished the tournament with a 3-2 record and gave up just seven runs. Both of their losses were to the Oakland Oaks.

In the championship game, the Lookouts were up 2-0 in the seventh, but the Oakland Oaks came back to tie the game and send it into overtime.

With the international tie-breaker rule in effect, Oakland Hills was able to bring in the runner from second base to win the game.

The Lookouts opened the tournament with a 13-1 victory over Sheldon High School then lost in the second game on Saturday to the Oakland Oaks.

David Estrella, who attends Wilcox High, started the first game, and Justin Andrade, from Hollister, closed out the game shorted by the mercy-run rule.

The Lookouts recorded back-to-back shutouts to get to the championship game.

Isaiah Zamorez, from Hollister, and Adrian Monroy, who attends Anzar, pitched the Lookouts to a 3-0 victory over Sacramento then switched their rolls, with Monroy starting, in the 8-0 victory over Petaluma.

Kevin Medeiros hit a triple in the victory over Sacramento.

Aaron Schulman, who lives in Hollister and attends Palma High, gave the team a solid performance at catcher.

The Lookouts will be in Fresno this weekend.
