An 18-year-old Hollister resident was arrested by Hollister police for allegedly raping and drugging a 14-year-old girl Sunday.

Alex Cevallos was arrested at Bonfante Gardens in Gilroy, his place of employment, at 2:30 p.m., after Hollister police were notified by the victim’s mother, officer George Ramirez said.

Cevallos knew the victim, and the rape allegedly occurred sometime between Saturday evening and Sunday morning at the girl’s residence, Ramirez said.

The girl’s mother contacted police Sunday morning when she discovered what had happened, he said.

“He came over to visit with her, and when the mom returned she found them both,” Ramirez said. “It’s still under investigation, but there was some sort of inappropriate sexual relation… it could be completely consensual, but due to their ages it’s against the law.”

Police and eight deputies of the San Benito County Sheriff’s High Risk Team served a search warrant at Cevallos” home on Prater Way Sunday afternoon, and were then routed to Bonfante Gardens where he was arrested, Ramirez said.

Police are also investigating the role drugs played in the incident, Ramirez said.

“He either provided her with marijuana or they shared it,” he said. “But there was no struggle, no force that we know of at this point.”

The girl was taken to a San Jose-area hospital where a sexual assault test was performed, Ramirez said.

Cevallos also had a warrant for a prior burglary charge, and was arrested on suspicion of unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor, contributing to the delinquency of a minor, rape of a drugged victim and burglary, all felonies.

He is being held at the San Benito County Jail without bail.
