Dear Editor:

There is recall in the air in San Benito County, and it has the refreshing aroma of grass roots democracy at it best!

Despite a recent article in this paper pointing out the unusualness of such an event, recalls do occur. I participated in two recalls in my six years representing San Benito County in the State Assembly. Both recalls were swift, succinct and completely successful.

Likewise, the current movement to recall District Attorney John Sarsfield will succeed. This, despite the fact some criminal would sully Sarsfield’s detractors by a despicable act involving his dogs. May the Sheriff do his job, find the person or persons responsible and bring them to justice.

So recalls happen, and it will happen here. One of the reasons I became involved in the recall was that despite his considerable time in office, Sarsfield has yet to make an appearance in court and prosecute a case. This is how criminals feel the full brunt of the law; it certainly is not through plea bargains with slaps-on-the-wrist sentences.

I am convinced that the patriotic citizens of this county will not put up with the nonsense that is going on in the district attorney’s office. They will do what should be done under the laws of this land and take matters in their own hands – they will recall the current district attorney.

Our beautiful and beloved county deserves a district attorney we can look up to, a man we can be proud of. A closer look at the current district attorney and it’s obvious that he lacks such qualities.

My fellow residents of San Benito County, there are no two ways about it; either you are for good government or you are not. I urge you to join me, together we will rise up and stand together and be counted.
