Dear Editor,

Valkommen! “Skal!” “Varsagpd!”

As you celebrated “Columbus Day” on Oct. 11, hopefully you remembered that Leif Ericson arrived on the shores of this continent 500 years before, through the Native Americans were here to greet them and everyone else who came to the “New World.”

All you Scandinavians – be proud that the Vikings were brave mariners who challenged the uncharted oceans with pure guts, determination and the spirit of adventure, without the luxury of even primitive maps and compasses, but with only the guidance that Mother Nature provided.

Congratulations to you, Leif Ericson, your crew and your Viking longboat, Gold.

Raise those goblets with a toast for “Leif Ericson Day.”

“Welcome!” “Cheers!” “Enjoy!”
