Navy airman James G. Conway III recently completed a six-month deployment to the Mediterranean Sea and the Arabian Gulf while assigned to Electronic Attack Squadron 132, embarked aboard the aircraft carrier USS George Washington, home-ported in Norfolk, Va.

Conway, a 2000 graduate of San Benito High School, is the son of Victoria Moreno Montoya of Hollister. He joined the Navy in September 2000 and is one of more than 10,000 Atlantic Fleet Sailors and Marines aboard the ships of the USS George Washington Carrier Battle Group and the USS Nassau Amphibious Ready Group.

Home-based at Naval Air Station Whidbey Island in Washington, Conway’s squadron flies the EA-6B Prowler, which is capable of jamming enemy radar to provide protection for strike aircraft and ground troops.

Volunteers from Conway’s ship helped the Sisters of Charity clean a soup kitchen before helping prepare and serve meals.
