A gang fight erupted in broad daylight last week on East Street near the intersection of First Street. It started when a 27-year-old alleged Norteño gang member heard an object strike his Honda as he was driving down East Street.
When he approached a group of young men to ask what was thrown at his car, several chased him with golf clubs and wooden sticks, according to Hollister Police Captain Bob Brooks.
The group caught up to the victim by his car and he suffered several abrasions and was bleeding from a wound on his lower left abdomen. The tattooed initials of a local Norteno gang and the number 14 were visible on his back, because his shirt was ripped.
Brooks said police had narrowed the suspect list down to three reputed gang members, but no arrests have been made. Ten to 15 men sporting gang clothing and tattoos intently watched paramedics treat the victim from half a block away.
