Investigators in Butte County are looking into the circumstances surrounding a tragic motorcycle accident that killed a former Hollister resident Tuesday.
Jon Paul Foshee, 23, who moved to Chico in July, died from injuries in an accident on the Hamilton Nord Cana Highway at the intersection of Bell Road just outside Chico, the California Highway Patrol said.
An autopsy will be conducted today to determine the cause of death, the Butte County Sheriff-Coroner’s Office said.
Foshee was pronounced dead at 1:50 p.m. Tuesday at Enloe Hospital in Chico, about 50 minutes after the deadly crash.
The accident happened at about 1 p.m. when Foshee was traveling southbound on Hamilton Nord Cana Highway on a 1998 Honda 900-RR motorcycle, the CHP said.
Foshee was reportedly traveling at about 100 mph and doing a wheelie on his back tire. When he brought the front tire back to the ground, Foshee lost control of the motorcycle and veered off the roadway into a culvert, the CHP said.
Foshee’s motorcycle continued out of control into a nearby orchard where it struck an almond tree, ejecting Foshee from the motorcycle, the CHP said.
Paramedics performed CPR at the scene and then transported Foshee to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Foshee was riding with his twin brother, Patrick, at the time of the accident. Both brothers were reportedly wearing helmets and protective gear at the time of the accident.
The CHP said it did not appear that alcohol or drugs played a role in the crash. However, CHP Officer Sean Fischer reportedly said he had cited both brothers for excessive speed in recent weeks.
