A motorcyclist sustained minor injuries in an accident on Highway 156 Saturday when his Harley-Davidson struck the rear of a sport utility vehicle.
Vincent Del Real, 16, was taken to Hazel Hawkins Hospital where he was treated for multiple cuts, scrapes and bruises, an injured left big toe and complaint of pain, the California Highway Patrol said.
The accident happened at about 5:30 p.m. when Del Real was eastbound on Highway 156 on a gray and silver Harley-Davidson motorcycle. For an unknown reason, he failed to stop for a green Jeep Cherokee Limited that had stopped in the eastbound lane of the highway about a quarter-mile west of the Union Road intersection and struck the left rear side of the Cherokee, the CHP said.
Del Real, who was wearing a helmet, was ejected from the 1,100-pound motorcycle as it skidded across the westbound lane and rolled over into a nearby ditch.
Traffic on the highway was backed up for miles in either direction as emergency crews helped Del Real and cleared the debris from the road. The crash is still under investigation.
