Jacob M. “Jake” Marquez died Saturday, May 17, 2003 as a result of a motorcycle accident in Paicines. He was 22.
Mr. Marquez was born in Gilroy and had lived most of his life in Hollister. He graduated from San Benito High School and had served four years of an electrical apprenticeship with Cupertino Electric and would have become a journeyman in a year.
He was a member of Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Hollister and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 332 in San Jose. He was an avid motorcycle rider and enjoyed riding on Highway 25 and Panoche Road to King City and Coalinga. He rode dirt bikes at Hollister Hills State Vehicular Recreation Area for years and in the last five years enjoyed riding his road bike.
He is survived by his parents, Michael and Kimberly Marquez of Hollister; his sister, Meghan Marquez of Hollister; his fiance, Amber Vanetti of Hollister; his fraternal grandparents, Ray and Emma Marquez of Hollister; his maternal grandmother, Dorothy Hornback of Hollister; seven uncles, seven unts, 15 cousins and two nephews.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, James Hornback.
Visitation will be Wednesday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Grunnagle-Ament-Nelson Funeral Home. The family will receive visitors from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Private cremation will follow at Grunnagle-Ament-Nelson Crematory.
Friends are invited to a memorial celebration of Mr. Marquez’s life Saturday at 3 p.m. in the pavillion at Bolado Park.
Memorials are preferred to the Stanford University Medical Center Children’s Hospital in care of the funeral home.
