A pregnant Hollister woman and her 4-year-old son suffered minor injuries in an accident Saturday on U.S. 101 when their car ran off the road just south of Highway 156.

Marciela Gonzalez, 26, who is seven months pregnant, and her 4-year-old son, whose name was not released because of his age, were both taken to Hazel Hawkins Hospital where they were treated for complaints of pain and scrapes and bruises and then later released, the California Highway Patrol said.

The 4:45 p.m. accident happened when Gonzalez and her son, who was properly restrained, were southbound on U.S. 101 in a 1997 Chrysler sedan traveling at about 40 mph, just south of the Highway 156 interchange.

For an unknown reason, Gonzalez’s car ran off the roadway, hit a curb and traveled about 10 feet up an embankment where it skidded to a stop on the northern shoulder of the highway.

Crash investigators said neither alcohol nor drugs played a role in the accident. The accident is still under investigation.
