intersection of Fairview and Churchill roads Saturday.
A Hollister woman sustained severe injuries when the motorcycle she was riding was struck by a sport utility vehicle near the intersection of Fairview and Churchill roads Saturday.
Lindsey Laughrin, 29, of Hollister was taken to Hazel Hawkins Hospital for a major injury to her right leg. Once her condition was stabilized, she was taken by helicopter to San Jose Medical Center, the California Highway Patrol said.
The 10:15 a.m. accident happened when Bobbi-Jean Cervantes, 49, of Hollister was northbound on Fairview in a 2001 Dodge SUV and started slowing down to make a left turn, the CHP said.
As Cervantes slowed down, there were three vehicles behind her SUV that also slowed down. Just as Cervantes began to make the left turn, a 2000 BMW motorcycle driven by Christopher Lequin, 36, of Hollister pulled out from the line of cars behind the Dodge, crosses the center line and moves into the intersection trying to pass Cervantes, the CHP said.
Cervantes, who sees the motorcycle moving toward her, stops her Dodge in an attempt to avoid the BMW.
However, as Lequin tries to squeeze by the SUV, he allegedly sideswipes the front of Cervantes’ Dodge, the CHP said.
As Lequin sideswipes the SUV, Laughrin, his passenger, catches her right knee against the front left bumper of the Dodge, the CHP said.
No one was arrested and the CHP said that alcohol did not play a role in the accident. The crash is still under investigation.
