The members of the Cienega 4-H Club are challenging other clubs and community groups to take part in a recycling fundraiser to help the Hollister Elks Lodge.
With the help of Eagle Recycling, the members and parents of the Cienega 4-H Club are putting together a recycling challenge on June 21 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Located at 2400 San Juan-Hollister Road, Eagle Recycling will donate an extra 5 cents per pound of aluminum cans that are brought in for the recycling challenge.
The recycling challenge will take all recyclable products, not just aluminum cans, so businesses, service clubs or other 4-H clubs can bring a variety of recyclable goods.
All of the proceeds will go toward buying a new flat grill and stove for the Elks Lodge.
“The Elks have been really good to 4-H over the years,” 4-H parent and volunteer Sunny Brawley said. “They help us out every year with our pancake breakfast and our awards banquet.”
It’s been the Elks that have allowed the local 4-H clubs to use its lodge and cooking facilities every year to put on the pancake breakfasts.
This year’s pancake breakfast, held in April, served more than 1,120 people with more than 245 tickets sold.
The proceeds from the pancake breakfast go toward 4-H events and programs for youths throughout the year.
During the recycling challenge, the Cienega 4-H Club will also have other activities available, including a jump house and hot-dogs and other refreshments.
Proceeds from the food sales will also go toward the fundraising drive to help the service club that has helped so many others during the years, Brawley said.
