The San Benito County Board of Supervisors will review more than $11.7 million in local bridge and road construction projects Tuesday.

During its regularly scheduled meeting at 9:30 a.m., the Board is scheduled to review a report from county Public Works Director Doug Koenig concerning the status of more than a dozen ongoing construction projects in the county.

“Every three months we give a report to the Board on the status of local projects,” Koenig said.

He said the report will include an update on some Public Works internal procedures. There are “no big surprises” in the report, Koenig said.

Among the projects being reviewed are several proposals to repair or replace bridges that have either fallen into disuse or just need some refitting.

One such project included the completion of a low-water crossing at the county’s historical park.

Last year, the Board voted unanimously for a scaled-down proposal to build a bridge across the Tres Pinos Creek to the county’s historical park. Board members said although the joint project with Caltrans sounds good on the surface, with the state prepared to pay 80 percent of the price tag, the Board wanted to be sure the project will be worth its cost of approximately $190,000.

Other completed projects include a $584,000 reshaping of the intersections on Fairview Road at Santa Ana and McCloskey roads, a $536,618 Fairview Road bridge replacement at Dos Picachos Creek and the $1.5 million replacement of two San Juan Highway bridges.

Many of the projects under review are being built with the help of state and federal funding.

The Board will also review updates on the estimated $3 million project for a replacement of the Nash Road Bridge and a $1.7 million project to replace the Southside Road bridge at Tres Pinos Creek.

Public Works recently learned that Caltrans has given the go-ahead for the county to begin moving toward the replacements of the Cienega Road bridge at Pescadero Creek and the Lone Tree Road bridge at the Arroyos Dos Picachos Creek.
