As Election Day nears, we have an interesting race for Hollister City Council for District 3. I know little about Karson Klauer, but must admire a young man who responds to the call of civic duty and tries to affect change for the better. I wish him luck.
I do know Robbie Scattini, and when he states: “I love Hollister. I love the county. I love the people. I felt that I can give back,” truer words have never been spoken.
Sometimes Robbie’s love for our city has been demonstrated not so much in a beatific manner, but in a tougher approach as in years back, when he was the first that I know of who could foresee that our city was heading into financial crisis. He demanded accountability from department heads and scrutinized how tax dollars were spent. Let us not forget that back in 2004, financial projections disclosed millions of dollars in potential debt spending. Today, we are back on a firmer financial foundation and Robbie played an important role in this effort.
In other ways, Robbie’s love comes when yielding a “task master’s switch.” When the RDA was alive and kicking and substantial construction projects were underway, it was Robbie who insisted that local tradesman be considered and involved. I can personally attest to this and witnessed how adamant he can be in this regard.
Many of us know how difficult the path has been for the motorcycle rally to become a profitable benefit to our city. The signature event was even cancelled one year and its future obscured as an annual drain to city coffers. Yet, it was Robbie who stayed steadfast in keeping it going and worked hard to help transition it to the success it is today.
No one has worked harder that I know to better our provincial world than Robbie Scattini. He certainly does his homework and is perpetually active in the community to affect change in a positive way. Yes, he can be tough, but I also know him as a gentle, caring man and ask you to vote for him for City Council.
