Oakley

How can I tell anyone why my dog is my best friend? How can I even come close to why he is my best friend? He is an 8 1/2-year-old Australian shepherd.
When we picked him out of the litter, he actually picked me by crawling over to me. It was love at first sight. His name is Oakley, but we should have named him Shadow. Wherever I am, he is right beneath my feet. He has only unconditional love for me. Whether I am having a good day or bad day, he doesn’t judge, just sits there with his “huggie” in his mouth, ready for anything. Whether it’s time for a walk, nap or bedtime he’s game. He’s there just to lend a bent ear and listen with his head tilted. He puts a smile on my face, even on those hectic days. He even will chime in with an “I love you” back to me.
At night time, he snuggles on his bed, right next to me, but as soon as my husband leaves for work, he thinks I can’t see him sneak on the bed. Considering he weighs 65 pounds, he still thinks he’s a lap dog. Watching him sleep is a joy in itself. All the twitching and yelping, I always wonder what he is dreaming about.
Do I adore my dog, of course! Is he my best friend, yes! He doesn’t want much, just a “good boy” and for me to be HIS best friend.
