A private family celebration of his life will be held with music, food, fun and love.
Al DeLeon peacefully passed away surrounded by his family on August 31, 2013.
He was born in Crystal City, TX to the late Andres and Juanita DeLeon.
Al moved to California at a young age with his parents, brother and sisters and settled in Gilroy. For several years he harvested the local crops.
He attended local schools and upon completing high school landed a job at the local cannery.
He was a long time member of the California National Guard. He later became a barber and worked at Trim Time Barber Shop in Gilroy for many years.
Along with his parents he is preceded in death by his brother Gilbert DeLeon and his sister Mundie DeLeon Hererra.
Al is survived by his sons Alec DeLeon, Andy DeLeon (Corina), daughter Sherri Mallory (Jay). He is also survived by his wife Mary and her children Annie Tomasello (Sal), Fernie Mirelez, Gloria Gutierrez (Frank), Noe Escamilla and Belinda Escamilla.
Al will be missed by his brother Pat DeLeon and sisters Minerva Amezcua, Elsie Hansen, May Ozuna and Susan Prieto. Also several nephews, nieces, grandchildren, cousins and friends.
