As kids and adults prepare to dress up like ghouls and goblins on Halloween, one local Hollister resident is collecting donations to ensure every child has the opportunity to wear a costume.
“I feel it would benefit those who simply cannot afford to buy such a luxury,” said resident Candace Ledesma.
The idea for the the Halloween costume drive came from Ledesma’s daughter Alina, who attends Spring Grove School.
“Every year during the Halloween parade, I have noticed numerous children without a costume,” Ledesma said. “Whether it be for personal reasons, accessibility and/or financial reasons, I feel all children should have the opportunity to partake in such events.”
Ledesma has partnered with local nonprofit Chamberlain’s Children to accept costume donations up to October 29. A possible second organization could also in the mix.
“Both organizations will be sending me the ages, sizes and genders of the clients they serve,” Ledesma said. “I will then compile specific requests for our community members.”
For now, donations will be accepted for newborns to 18-year olds.
