Editor,

Pedestrians know that there is no crosswalk at the corner of Cushman Street and Tres Pinos Road. This does not, however, keep students from crossing the street there since it is the most direct route for them to reach Rancho San Justo Middle School. No matter how careful drivers may be, it is just a matter of time before a serious accident happens.

I hope that it will not take the death of a child before action is taken by the city of Hollister. I realize that Tres Pinos Road is a state highway, but that should not prevent city officials from impressing upon the state of California the seriousness of this situation and lobby them for either a stop sign or a stop light at that corner.
