Haybalers victorious in both varsity and frosh/soph at Samuelson
Co-Ed Relays
Hollister – The San Benito High track and field team braved wind and rain on Tuesday to easily win the Samuelson co-Ed Relays over the likes of Live Oak, North Monterey County, Leland and King City.

The event was originally scheduled for earlier in the season but it got rained out and was re-scheduled for Tuesday. And given the weather and the fact that the teams in attendance were missing some of their athletes due to spring break vacations, the relay featured a more laid-back feel than in years past.

While there weren’t any stellar times being posted in the running events due to the conditions, Hollister’s field athletes continued to improve the results they’ve been working on all season long.

Danielle Andrewson had her best marks of the season with a distance of 16 feet in the long jump and 35-3.5 in the triple jump.

Todd Merrigan scored his personal-best height in the pole vault last weekend at the Stanford Invite and, on Tuesday, he matched his last effort of 14 feet.

“A lot of times, it’s hard to reproduce that same result only a few days later,” said Hollister coach Jennifer Logue. “And the fact that the conditions were so bad says a lot, I’m sure he’ll be able to break that.”

Crystina Osborne continues to make big strides in the shot put and the discus. Osborne tossed a 103 feet in the discus and a 29.6 in the shot put, both season highs.

Morgan O’Laughlin also had personal bests in the discus and the shot put events, highlighted by her throw of 27.11 feet in the shot put.

The Haybalers are off the rest of the week but will return to the track at San Benito High next Thursday to host the Gilroy Mustangs.
