Hollister Little League is guaranteed a spot in the championship game of the District 9 Minors Tournament of Champions. The reason is the AAA Twins of the Hollister American league and the AAA Cubs of the Hollister National league each won their quarterfinal games in Soledad on Sunday.

The Twins outslugged North County 11-6, while the Cubs, who had a bye in the opening round, walloped Continental 13-0. The two Hollister teams meet in one semifinal on Tuesday at Vet’s Park at 5:30 p.m. Hartnell meets Greenfield tonight at Salinas National in the other semifinal. The championship game is Wednesday in Gonzales at 5:30 p.m.

“I have a great relationship with the Cubs coach, Steve Carroll,” said Twins manager Scott Salvas. “The Cubs were cheering us on the whole game on Sunday. We cheered them on for three innings, but they were leading 12-0 at that time, so we left. It will be a friendly, competitive game.”

It was the second win of

the tourament for the Twins, who spanked Salinas National 14-0 in four innings on Saturday. In that game, Tanner Carrillo-Zazueta struck out the first eight batters he faced to pick up the win.

“That was a surprise to see Tanner do that,” said Salvas. “It was absolutely amazing and a great way to start. We don’t really have a No. 1 pitcher. We have four quality pitchers that I rely on.”

Kevin Salvas had a two-run inside-the-park homer, while Jose Bravo, an up-and-coming 12 year-old, was 2-3 with 2 RBI. Tucker Zazueta-Carrillo went 2-3.

Tucker Zazueta-Carrillo stayed hot with the bat in the Twins win over North County when he went 3-3 with 2 RBI. He also stole three bases.

“Tucker has been coming on of late,” said Scott Salvas.

Conner Stevens had a double and pitched three innings, strikout out six batters. Kevin Salvas also fanned six hitters in three innings of pitching duties and had 2 RBI. Bravo had a double and 2 RBI for the Twins.
