Emergency workers watch as the helicopter carrying a victim of a multiple car crash takes off Tuesday morning from Highway 152 just south of Dinosaur Point.
At about 9 a.m., Beverly Spengler, 26, of Los Banos, was traveling westbound in her 1989 Ford van, when she lost control of her vehicle and struck the center divider. Then she struck Porfiria Oseguera’s 1988 Honda Civic. Oseguera, 30, of Merced, hit the divider and came to a rest. The third vehicle, a 2001 Dodge Dakota driven by Roderic Atkinson, 33, of Los Banos, struck the Civic.
Oseguera suffered moderate injuries and was life-flighted to San Jose Medical Center.
Spengler was transported to Saint Louise Regional Medical Center in Gilroy, along with her two 1-year-old passengers as a precaution, according to the California Highway Patrol. Traffic was backed up only briefly, as investigators moved the vehicles to the side of the road.
