These two sister opossums were released at dusk Wednesday near a secluded Morgan Hill creek. They hesitated for only a minute before scampering off through the fall leaves and swimming across the stream. The 10-inch long marsupials were two of three tiny orphans that were rescued in late August after their mother was killed in a vehicle collision. They were fed by tube for the first few days at the Wildlife Education and Rehabilitation Center, before they began eating soft food on their own. All three quickly grew plump and healthy from a nutritious and natural diet. The third sister was a little slower psychologically, likely from the trauma suffered from accident, but she had the good fortune to be transferred to W.E.R.C.’s educational animal program.
