Luis Alejo

March is Women’s History Month. To commemorate the outstanding women in our communities, Assemblymember Luis A. Alejo will name one leader from the district the 2012 Woman of the Year.
Individuals and organizations are encouraged to submit nominations on or before January 27.
Each nominee should be a woman who has, over the past year, made a significant contribution to her community, who shows strength and determination, vision, integrity, and has not previously been recognized by the State Assembly for this honor. The winner will be named the 28th Assembly District’s Woman of the Year and honored at a special ceremony in the State Capitol.
Submissions should include a biography, letters of recommendation, newspaper articles and/or any other information that would support the nominee.
To qualify nominees must meet the following qualifications:
– Live in the 28th Assembly District. (Visit www.assembly.ca.gov and click on “Find my Representative” to confirm eligibility.)
– Have a strong track record of volunteerism or, if a paid employee, having gone above and beyond her regular duties.
– Not previously honored as Woman of the Year.

Last year’s honoree, Elvira Zaragoza Robinson of Hollister, was celebrated for her long career as a civil rights attorney and public servant. Among her many accomplishments, Zaragoza-Robinson served as a Santa Clara County Deputy District Attorney, a Trustee on the Gavilan Joint Community College District, President of La Raza Lawyers of Santa Clara County, and counsel to the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC).
