Turkey giveaway

Assemblyman Luis Alejo was in the giving mood Monday. In partnership with a water agency, he distributed more than 100 turkey vouchers to charities and organizations, including the local branch of the League of United Latin American Citizens.
According to a full announcement from Alejo’s office:
Today, Assemblymember Luis Alejo (D-Salinas), in partnership with California Water Service (Cal Water), distributed over one hundred turkey vouchers good for the purchase of a Thanksgiving turkey to local charities and organizations.  This event is part of an annual state-wide effort by Cal Water called Operation Gobble.
“Operation Gobble is a reminder of the importance to give back to the community and to help ensure the less fortunate, still has the celebratory experience that brings us all together,” states Alejo.  “It is my hope that each one of the vouchers given out today will help unite families, granting them the ability to enjoy a delicious meal together.”
This year, the seven local charities and organizations chosen to receive the Thanksgiving turkey vouchers are the California Rural Legal Assistance, Inc., the Salinas American Association of Retired Persons (AARP), Gilroy Compassion Center, San Benito County League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC), Los Padres Elementary School, the Day Workers Center of Santa Cruz County and Dorothy’s Place.
“We believe it is important to support all of the charities involved,” states Mike Jones, the District Manager of California Water Service.  “It’s the right thing to do at this time of year. The California Water Service is happy to give back to the community we serve and we are proud to help.”
“On behalf of the parents and the families that will benefit from receiving the vouchers, once again we thank the individuals that donate these vouchers,” states Ali Chavez, Community Liaison, Los Padres Elementary Community.  “I would like to give a special thank you to Assemblymember Luis Alejo as well. These vouchers will benefit not one, not two, but many families in need during Thanksgiving. We are very thankful.”
Luis Alejo represents the 30th District in the California State Assembly, which consists of the Salinas Valley, Monterey County, San Benito County, South Santa Clara County and the city of Watsonville in Santa Cruz County.
