A broken curb on Sixth Street, across from Dunne Park, provides hints of one of the fault zones above which Hollister sits.

A magnitude 3.9 earthquake occurred in the San Juan Bautista area at 6:16 p.m. Friday, according to the United States Geological Survey.
The earthquake was centered three miles southeast of San Juan Bautista, seven miles west of Hollister and 11 miles northeast of Salinas, according to the USGS. It was at a depth of four miles.
It happened 16 days after the magnitude 4.2 earthquake occurred in the San Juan area.
In Hollister, the quake had an initial jolt and then rolled slowly. Readers on the USGS website reported feeling Friday’s earthquake as far to the north as San Jose and as far to the southwest as Carmel.
A San Benito County Sheriff’s Office dispatcher reported there were no related calls after the Friday earthquake.
