The Anzar High girls basketball team scored its first Mission Trail Athletic League win of the season Friday with a 52-44 defeat of visiting Gonzales.

It was second league win in the Hawks’ history.

“The girls were jazzed,” said Hawks coach Paul Lerma. “It was fun.”

Sophomore pivot Amanda Link totaled a career-high 25 points for Anzar (4-15, 1-10). Suzie Garcia had 12, while Heidi Rivera chipped in seven.

The Hawks are at Soledad Tuesday, then return home to face Greenfield Thursday at 5 p.m. A makeup at Gonzales is slated for Feb. 12.

In other Hawk shots, Michael Weldon scored a goal in a 1-1 tie with York Saturday morning. The Hawk boys booters stand at 3-11-1 in the MTAL and 3-13-1 overall. The Hawks finish the year at Pacific Grove on Tuesday.

The Anzar girl booters were edged by King City at home Friday by a score of 2-1. Crystal Dudoit scored on a corner kick in the second half for the Hawks (4-11-3, 4-10-2). Anzar is at York today and ends the season vs. Pacific Grove on Wednesday.

In boys hoop, the Hawks were in the game at Gonzales on Friday before falling 66-59. Jordan Monroe had a big night for the Hawks with 28 points. Chaz Armour had 15, while Greg D’Amore had 11. The Hawks (5-10, 2-7 MTAL) are home to Soledad on Tuesday.
