San Benito wrestlers start season strong with 48-26 win over
Cupertino
Greenfield – Four games into the Mission Trail Athletic League season, the Anzar girls soccer team is a perfect 4-0.
Better yet, the Hawks have yet to allow a single goal.
The latest impressive win for Anzar came Wednesday as the Hawks blanked Greenfield 1-0.
Leah Jimenez scored off an assist from Alex Brown in the 22nd minute and Emily Deleissegues recorded six saves, including a pair back-to-back that coach Deric McLean called “her two toughest saves of the season.”
Late in the game, she was forced to make a point blank save, followed by a highlight reel save, diving while backpedaling.
“It’s tough to ask for much more from your keeper,” McLean said.
McLean said the team concentrated its efforts on controlling possession of the ball and estimated the team had it for nearly 75 percent of the game.
“Don’t mind the score, this was our best game this season,” McLean said. “We were more interested in working the possession game today, which we certainly did, than we were in running up the score.”
Jimenez’s goal now give the Hawks three different players with five goals, along with Sara Chatley and Olivia Austin. Brown now leads the MTAL with her five assists.
Anzar (4-2, 4-0), which is tied for first with Santa Catalina (5-0, 4-0), will put its unbeaten and unscored upon streak on the line Friday when it faces Robert Louis Stevenson.
