State Assemblywoman Anna Caballero, whose district includes Hollister, announced Friday that she’s officially endorsing Measure T.
If approved on Nov. 6, the measure would increase Hollister’s sales tax from 7.25 percent to 8.25 percent. The measure commits the money to the city’s general fund, rather than to any particular use, but an advisory citizens’ oversight committee would track the spending and the tax would end after five years. A similar tax hike, Measure R, was defeated by Hollister voters in Nov. 2006.
In a press release, Caballero’s staff said the tax would improve services for “the fast-growing city of Hollister.” The press release also noted that when Caballero was the mayor of Salinas, she endorsed a 0.25 percent sales tax hike. Caballero’s field representative, Robert Rivas, is co-chairman of the Yes-on-T campaign.
