After winning its first ever Central Coast Section playoff game and finishing with a 19-10 record, the San Benito girls water polo team was rewarded with four individuals on the all-league team this week.
San Benito seniors Caitlin Schafer, who finished with more than 200 goals, and Rachel Estep were both selected to the first team. The pair entered the season as the Balers captains and most experienced players. Both played that way throughout the season finishing first and second in goals and steals during the season.
Sophomores Rachel Smithee, who took over in the cage halfway through the season, and Erin Hepner were both selected to the Baler second team.
Heather Smith, a sophomore, was named the Richard Chamberlin Sportsmanship Award recipient for San Benito.
The league’s MVP was given to Soquel’s Michaella Parelius, who finished with 126 goals in 27 games.
The boys water polo team was rewarded with two spots on the all-league team. For the second year in a row, Jacob Garcia was named to the league’s first team.
His brother, sophomore Charlie Garcia was name to the second team.
Jaret Barrios earned the Richard Chamberlin Sportsmanship Award.
Anzar volleyball
After finishing with the best record in school history at 23-5, the Anzar volleyball team was honored with two all Mission Trail Athletic League Selections earlier this week.
With a team-leading 660 digs and 39 aces, Mali Gonzales was named to the all-league team. She was joined by Hawks’ kill leader Raleigh McKinney, who finished with 357.
Senior captain Delaney McKinney was named an honorable mention after finishing with 154 kills and a team-leading 34 blocks.
