The San Benito Babe Ruth 15-year-old All-Stars advanced to the championship of the District 1 State Qualifier Tournament on Monday night after it defeated Lodi 11-2 at Veterans Memorial Park in Hollister.

“We kind of blew it open in the sixth and seventh innings,” said San Benito manager Joe Ocampo, adding that the game was knotted at 2-all prior to the sixth inning.

San Benito will now play in Wednesday’s final against the winner of Tuesday’s consolation semifinal match-up between Lodi and Manteca.

Game 1 of the championship is scheduled for Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. Game 2, which will only be held if San Benito loses the first game, will take place 30 minutes after the completion of Game 1.

The tournament champion will then advance to the state tournament, slated for July 24 in Dinuba.

The local 15-year-olds, meanwhile, which won the District 1 tournament last year, have already defeated both semifinal opponents in Lodi and Manteca. Coupled with its 11-2 victory over Lodi on Monday, San Benito edged Manteca on Saturday when Marcus Sabatte connected on an RBI single in the ninth inning en route to a narrow 3-2 victory.

On Friday, in the tournament opener, San Benito topped Tracy 9-4.
