His name is Bagheera (named after the panther in the Disney movie “Jungle Book”). A local pet shop does animal rescue. I stopped in one day and they had a little black kitten. He was so sweet. I was on one side of the cage and he got up and jumped to my side to say hello. A kitten size “meow hello.” He had arrived weeks ago with his siblings and now was all alone. You see, no one wanted him because he is all black. He had so much personality we decided to bring him home.
Little did we know how sweet he is. I have owned a pet sitting business for more than 30 years, taking care of thousands of animals. Bagheera is one of, if not the sweetest cats I have ever come across. He never scratches on the furniture, uses all five of the cat trees we have for him. Bagheera has had one accident outside his box all these years, and it was our fault because he was accidentally locked in the bedroom when the door was closed behind him. He never scratches, bites or hisses.
When our twin boys were born, he would stay up and guard their crib. When one or both the boys are sick, he stands guard outside their bedroom door. When they are not sick he sleeps on our master bed. He knows when they are not feeling well. When my wife or I are sick, he does not leave our side. He gives the biggest head hugs and purrs like a motor. When our boys were little (they just turned 6) and were a little rough with him, he never bit them or scratched them. He would simply lift his paw and give them a thump with his paw saying, “Please stop, I do not like that.”
