The Hollister High boys basketball team had a nice run in the Overfelt Invitational Tournament in San Jose.

The Balers toppled the host school 70-52 in the third place game to go to 3-1 on the year.

Hollister sophomore Kyle Sharp led all scorers with 18 points, while junior Anthony Butler had 16 points. Sophomore Eric Davis had 13 points in his first varsity start. Davis went 8-of-8 from the free throw line.

The Balers play Santa Teresa Wednesday at 4 p.m. in the first round of the Independence Tournament.

The Hollister frosh, coached by former varsity head mentor John Becerra, won the Salinas Tournament and are now 4-0.

In soccer, the Baler girls tied Monterey 1-1 Friday at Monterey. Rose Vandenberg tallied with a header on a corner kick from Julie Broyer.

“We didn’t play very well in the first half,” said Baler head coach Michael Schurig. “If it wasn’t for goalie Mary VonUrff, we would have been behind 3-1. We played a great second half.”
