Hollister resident
Hollister resident Hazel G. Garvis died Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2002 at Twin Cities Community Hospital in Templeton. She was 87.

Mrs. Garvis was born in South Dakota and had lived in Hollister for 27 years. She was visiting her son in San Luis Obispo when she fell ill. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and, as an avid golfer, a past member of Ridgemark Golf and Country Club and the Bolado Women’s Club.

She is survived by her children and their spouses, Nancy and Jim Donovan of Carmichael, Ronald and Sandra Garvis of Atascadero and Wayne and Kathy Garvis of Fresno; her brother, Leon Abma of Carmichael; 11 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Louis Garvis, in 1978.

A memorial Mass will be celebrated Saturday at noon at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. The Rev. Richard Clark will be the celebrant. Inurnment at Calvary Cemetery will follow the Mass.

Arrangements and cremation are through Black Cooper Sander Funeral Home and Gavilan Hills Crematory.

Memorials are preferred to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
