Nathan Winn leads San Benito with a 39, San Benito takes second
behind Palma at Corral de Tierra Country Club
The San Benito boys golf team finished second out of four teams at the Corral de Tierra Country Club in Salinas on Monday, compiling a team score of 212.

Palma took the top spot with a 192, 20 strokes ahead of the Haybalers.

Chieftains Matt Ogden and Matt Pinizzotto each medaled with a 37 on the par-36 front nine.

Nathan Winn led San Benito with a 3-over 39, and Will Cross came in with a 42. Joey Amaral carded a 43 at the Salinas course, while Darrell Aton and Marcus Synegal each finished with a 44.

Justin Palmquist rounded out San Benito with a 45.

Salinas took third place with a 222 and Pacific Grove finished fourth with a 225.

Monday’s meet marked the second this season for San Benito, which defeated King City 202-270 at the King City Golf Course on Feb. 19.

Amaral medaled that round with a 2-over 37 on the nine-hole golf course, while Aton carded a 39 on the day. Cross claimed a 40, Winn a 42, and Synegal a 44 to round out San Benito’s top five. Palmquist shot a 45 on the day.

“They’re doing fairly well,” assistant coach Sal Felice said. “They’re young and we’re just trying to work with them a little bit.

“But I think they’re gonna be good. I think we’ll be pleasantly surprised.”

San Benito had a previous meet against Sobrato on Feb. 21, but that was canceled. Felice said they’re looking to reschedule the meet, but no date has been announced.

On Monday, San Benito will play in the Monterey Bay Invitational at the Salinas Golf and Country Club. Tee time is 11 a.m.
