Led by 15 points from Dominic Zanella, the San Benito boys basketball team had 10 different scorers on Saturday as they routed Watsonville 75-23 in the consolation game at the 26th Annual Seascape Classic in Aptos.

San Benito went 2-1 at the tournament to finish in fifth place.

After losing to Gunn 48-38 in the opening round on Thursday, the ‘Balers rebounded with a 63-53 victory against league rival Gilroy on Friday, setting up Saturday’s showdown with Watsonville.

San Benito is now 3-2 on the season.

James King added 14 points for the ‘Balers, which carried a 31-10 lead to halftime. Colton Alves supplied 11 points and six rebounds for San Benito, while Eric Elayda had nine points and four assists.

Everyone on San Benito was able to play, head coach John Becerra said, and the Haybalers managed to keep the Wildcatz to single-digit point totals in each quarter.

“The good thing is that all my kids played with hustle and aggressiveness,” Becerra said. “They did well.”

With the Seascape Classic now complete, San Benito will open the Independence Fukishima Invitational on Tuesday at Independence High School in San Jose.

The ‘Balers will open with Monta Vista at 5 p.m.
