No matter what happens at this weekend’s Tri-County Athletic League boys tennis tournament, Hollister High head coach Allen Barker wants his entrants to have fun.

The Balers fell to first place Salinas 7-0 Tuesday at the Ridgemark Tennis Center. The Cowboys have the best player in the league in defending champ John Pettit. Pettit defeated the Balers No. 1 Glen Morris 6-1, 6-1.

“Pettit has an incredible serve,” said Barker. “He has a great all-around game. He’s lean and he’s mean. Salinas is the best team in the league. If they’re not in first place, they should be.”

Barker hopes Morris can “win at least a couple of matches” at T-CAL’s. Michael Blake is Barker’s No. 2 singles at T-CAL’s. Isidro Trujillo and Pablo Andrade are the No. 1 doubles, while Barker suspects Mario Zaragoza and Ryan Watson will play No. 2 singles.

Action heats up at RTC this Friday at 9 a.m. Saturday’s semis and finals are at 1 p.m.

The Balers (2-12 T-CAL) hope to finish the regular season on a high note this Thursday at North Salinas, a team the Balers have defeated twice.
