Girls post 6-1 victory at Seaside; San Benito sweeps singles

Seaside – For openers, the afternoon came across as an encouraging success for the San Benito girls’ tennis team. In their first match of the season, the Lady ‘Balers recorded a 6-1 victory over host Seaside on Friday.
No. 1 singles player Amanda Marshall posted a 6-2, 6-4 victory, leading San Benito’s sweep of the four singles matches.
No. 2 Rebecca Williams and No. 4 Abby Wood won third-set tiebreakers to take their matches, and No. 3 Lizzy Gatto made quick work of her opponent, posting a dominant 6-0, 6-0 victory.
San Benito won two of the three doubles matches, with the Rachel Maheu–Elena Fata team winning at No. 2 and Crystal Perreira and Marisa Ibarra prevailing in the third doubles match.
‘Balers head coach Ed Cecena was pleased his team could open with a victory. “It was a good first outing for us,” he said. “The girls played really well.”
San Benito returns to the court Tuesday when it hosts Leigh at Ridgemark at 3:30pm, the first of three matches in three days for the ‘Balers.
