San Benito downs Everett Alvarez 6-1 Thursday

The San Benito girls tennis team lost just a single match Thursday against Everett Alvarez at home, and even that match went to a third-set tiebreaker.

The Lady ‘Balers improved to 8-2 in the Tri-County Athletic League when they coasted to a 6-1 victory over the visiting Eagles at the Ridgemark Golf and Country Club.

San Benito is now 15-4 overall.

Thursday’s win put an end to an otherwise easy week for the Lady ‘Balers, who were coming off a 7-0 victory against North Salinas on Tuesday.

In singles, top-seeded player Amanda Marshall beat Charleen Speer 6-0, 6-1; Abbie Woods won her match against Stephanie Rahiri 6-2, 6-1; and Hayley Barker defeated Christina Wong 6-3, 6-1.

The only loss came at No. 4 singles, but even then, it could have gone either way as Eagle Bebeppe Castro beat Bri Ahumada-Wolfsmith 5-7, 6-4 and 11-9 in the third-set tiebreaker.

The doubles pairings for San Benito swept through Alvarez, though. At No. 1, Crystal Perreira and Marisa Ibarra won 6-0, 6-2 against Tempestt Edward and Mariah Vega; Chelsea Yoakum and Vanessa Casalegno did the same against Eagles Brianna Gonzalez and Jasmine Ramirez, 6-3, 6-0; and Rachel Smith and Lauren Ademek preserved the sweep with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Tiffany Huynh and Anna Vega.

The Lady ‘Balers will battle Tuesday at Salinas, which handed them a 5-2 loss earlier in the season.
