The San Benito High boys tennis team improved to 8-2 in the Tri-County Athletic League after it dispatched visiting Monte Vista Christian 7-0 Tuesday at the Ridgemark Golf and Country Club in Hollister.

It was the final home match of the season for San Benito, which will now finish the regular season at Everett Alvarez on Thursday and at Palma the following Tuesday prior to next week’s TCAL Finals in Salinas.

The ‘Balers have solidified its position as the No. 2 team in the TCAL, behind Salinas, and MVC proved to be no match Tuesday.

It was a sweep in singles, with No. 1 Derek Panger downing Ha Le 6-3, 6-1 to set the tone. No. 2 Mark Tobias then defeated Sean Trendo 6-2, 6-1, while No. 3 Kyle Skinner beat Tony Minini 6-1, 6-4.

No. 4 singles player Austin Pan won his match via forfeit.

It was a similar story in doubles as well, where No. 1 Jon Rudolfs and Michael Jensen topped Sunil Hwang and Max Song 6-0, 6-1, and the No. 2 team of Tony Culler and Conner Bray disposed of Andy Chang and Stephen To 6-4, 6-1. The No. 3 pairing of Josh Greenwood and Thomas Parcell upended Kevin Spier and Sarin Parileh 6-2, 6-0 to round out doubles.

In an exhibition match, Austin Pan and Eric Johnson teamed up to down Max Song and Tony Minini 6-4.

San Benito will return to the court Thursday at Alvarez. Match time is 4 p.m.
