Picking up its fifth straight win since dropping its first two contests to open the season, the Balers are now 3-0 in the TCAL, 5-2 overall. Meanwhile, after plating a total of 12 runs against their first four non-league opponents in Valley Christian, Santa Cruz, Santa Clara and Monterey, the Balers have since scored 27 runs in their last three league games against North Salinas and Everett Alvarez.
Last Friday’s game against the Eagles, in fact, saw the Balers jump out to an early lead, as they controlled a 7-0 cushion through one and a half innings of play. Alvarez posted its one and only run in the home half of the second, but never mounted any sort of a comeback over the remainder of the game.
Starting pitcher Anthony Ocampo provided much of the edge for San Benito, tossing a complete game four-hitter for the Balers and striking out seven batters in the process, while also connecting on two hits and five RBI at the plate.
Ocampo and Darin Gillies each provided a double for San Benito, with Gillies going 2 of 2 at the dish with one RBI and two runs scored. Jacob Tonascia had three runs scored, while Daniel Arevalo added a pair of RBIs.
Dustin Rovella had one RBI and one run scored, and Josh George, Craig Slibsager and Daniel Gonzales each added a run as well.
The Balers will return to Hollister on Tuesday for their second straight matchup against Everett Alvarez at 4 p.m. San Benito will then open a two-game series against Salinas on Thursday.
