Despite twice overcoming at least a two-run deficit, the Gavilan College baseball team needed one final comeback in a 8-6 loss in 10 innings to visiting Coast Conference opponent Cabrillo on Monday.
It was the second defeat for the Rams in as many games – the first time the school has dropped back-to-back outings this season.
Gavilan (13-10 overall, 6-5 conference) dug out of a three-run hole in the bottom of the sixth, utilizing a RBI-double from Chris Bradley, a Tommy Cox RBI-single and a Tyler Oertle run-scoring double to left to tie the game 4-4.
Cabrillo (13-8, 7-2) slid back in front in the top of the ninth when Gilroy High product Eric Vegas (2 for 5, three RBI) singled in a pair of Seahawks for a 6-4 advantage.
With RBI-hits, Kenny Hall and Bradley gave Gavilan new life in the bottom of the ninth, sending the contest into extra innings knotted at 6-6.
However, Cabrillo didn’t wait long to again retake the lead, manufacturing two runs to jump into the lead for good.
The Rams will look to stop their short two-game slide today against Ohlone College at 2:30 p.m. in Gilroy.
