The Hollister 11-12 year old National All-Stars survived the elimination bracket Tuesday by beating Ferrasci 19-1 to advance to the District 9 championship game against Hartnell on Saturday.
It was a dominating victory Tuesday for Hollister, as they jumped on Ferrasci with 11 runs in the bottom of the first inning.
Hollister added seven runs in the second and one in the third inning to complete a shortened four-inning victory over Ferrasci, which beat the National team 2-0 earlier in the tournament.
Hollister’s Nick Christian threw well, allowing only five baserunners and four hits while striking out five batters. He did not allow an earned run.
At the plate, Hollister’s Isaiah Bueno and Garrett Bourdet each added a home run. Bueno, Mason Marquez, Tyler Triano and Javier Valdez each drove in three runs.
Bourdet, Ryan Platero and Josh Jennings each drove in two runs in the win.
With the victory, Hollister advances to the championship game against Hartnell at 1 p.m. in Prunedale. To win the district championship, Hollister needs to beat Hartnell twice.
Hollister 10-11
The Hollister American team advanced to the District 9 championship game against cross-town rival Hollister National with a 14-7 victory over Hartnell on Monday.
The victory eliminates Hartnell, who defeat Hollister American 9-8 earlier in the tournament.
Hollister National advanced to the championship game on Saturday with their 5-4 victory over Hartnell.
The Hollister championship game starts at noon Saturday in Prunedale.
Hollister 9-10
Behind six-combined scoreless innings from Donnovan McAbee and John Correa, the Hollister American All-Star team advanced to Saturday’s District 9 championship game with a 9-0 victory Tuesday. American’s 9-0 win over Continental allowed Hollister to survive the championship braced unscathed.
McAbee and Correa each threw three shutout innings to pull away from Continental. The pitchers were supported by strong defense from American.
Second baseman Alyssa Ito and shortstop Kenny Moore controlled the middle of the diamond, manager Richard McAbee said.
At the plate, McAbee hit his third home run of the tournament to get American on the board. Caden Bolding also contributed a 2-run double to pace the offense.
“We were really efficient at the plate,” McAbee said. “It was a team effort again.”
In the elimination bracket, the Hollister National team also stayed alive with a 11-0 victory over Soledad on Monday. In the game, starting pitcher Joseph Castaneda threw a no-hitter, allowing only two baserunners. Castaneda struck out six in the victory.
Behind him, the team played clean defense and committed no errors.
“We gave a great effort on defense,” manager Mitch Burley said.
Hollister started its scoring in the second inning with six runs. They followed in the third with five additional runs.
Jacob Burley, Gabriel Razo and Castaneda all finished with two hits. Overall, Hollister scored 11 runs on 11 hits.
