Despite connecting on 10 hits, the Gavilan College baseball team was unable to upend visiting Skyline College on Saturday, as the Trojans pounded 18 hits en route to a 16-4 victory in Coast Conference action.

The Rams actually led 1-0 through one inning of the game, but surrendered the slim lead in the third when Skyline posted a 3-spot. From there, the San Bruno school added one run in both the fourth and fifth innings before tacking on seven runs in the sixth.

Gavilan starting pitcher Drew Davidson allowed 10 runs on 10 hits through five innings of work, striking out just one while walking five. Meanwhile, Ryan Navaroli, Devon Parrish, Julian Estrada and Nick Robles each threw one inning in relief for the Rams.

On the opposite bump, Julian Merryweather allowed four runs on nine hits through six innings pitched. He struck out four batters while walking two.

At the plate, Gavilan’s Tyler Provost and Kevin Hatchett each connected on two hits apiece, with Provost adding an RBI and a run scored. Ramiro Chapa had two runs scored in the game.

The loss drops Gavilan to 6-22 overall, 2-16 in the Coast Conference.

The Rams will look to halt their current 13-game losing streak at Canada College on Tuesday. First pitch is 2:30 p.m.
