Is one of your New Year’s resolutions to expand your mind and/or de-expand your post-holiday waistline? Here’s a marvelous and easy way to get some exercise, make new friends, or develop a new hobby: You’re invited to join Jane Haley (a National Park docent for over 27 years and long-time WERC volunteer) on an invigorating Saturday morning (9-11am) walk along Coyote Creek, Morgan Hill.
Beginners will learn how to identify birds by their flight, behavior, coloring, habitat and vocalization; experienced birdwatchers have the opportunity to add to their “life lists”. Upcoming walks are scheduled for January 14, February 11, March 10, April 7, and May 5. Jane will be happy to share her bird scope and bird books with you.
Buffleheads, goldeneyes, ruddy ducks, and cinnamon and green-winged teals are some of the wild and colorful water birds passing through the Bay Area while migrating to warm southern climates or staying over for the winter before returning north. Wood ducks, belted kingfishers, white-tailed kites, red-tailed hawks, tree swallows, meadowlarks, peregrine falcons, and Golden Eagles are a few of the permanent residents you also might glimpse in the ponds, creeks, trees, and skies.
Rain cancels. Due to the terrain, these walks are not recommended for young children. Send an email to
