The Bolado Charity Rodeo held its annual buckin’ bronco event in August. Now the organizers are seeking recipients for the money.
The group collected $6,000 from the two-day rodeo and will give away all the money to interested youth groups.
“We’re trying to find the best way to allocate the money,” said Jim Hernandez, vice president of the rodeo.
The organization is encouraging all youth groups in need of funding to apply. Groups must write a letter explaining their need and what the money would be used for.
In 2001 the rodeo gave away $3,000 to two organizations – DARE and the Future Farmers of America – and did it through word-of-mouth advertising, Hernandez said.
“We don’t want to call people and ask, ‘Do you need money?'” he said. “Of course they’ll say ‘Yes.'”
The rodeo’s board of directors will select the recipients it deems most worthy. All the money came from sponsor donations and entrant fees; admission to the rodeo was free.
Next year’s rodeo, Hernandez said, will be held near the same Aug. 17 weekend as this year’s.
Interested applicants should write to: Bolado Charity Rodeo, P.O. Box 2243, Hollister, CA 95024. The deadline for applications is Nov. 8.
