Robert "The Ghost" Guerrero holds up his belt after defeating Selcuk Aydin by unanimous decision, 117-111, 116-112, 116-112, to become the WBC Interim Welterweight champion of the world Saturday night in San Jose at the HP Pavilion.

Gilroy native Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero has been invited to Mexico City to receive his latest championship belt directly from World Boxing Council president Jose Sulaiman and son Mauricio.

Guerrero (29-1-1 18 KOs), who last month captured the WBC interim welterweight championship with his unanimous decision victory over previously undefeated Selcuk Aydin, will meet with the Sulaimans on Tuesday.

“It’s a great honor to be present in Mexico City with the Sulaiman family and receive my hard-earned WBC championship belt,” Guerrero said in a press release. “I’ve always envisioned myself becoming the WBC champion and I plan to represent the WBC and Golden Boy Promotions with pride.”

With that July 28 win, Guerrero became the mandatory challenger to face Floyd Mayweather Jr, another Golden Boy Promotions boxer.
