Nearly four years after her last fight, Kelsey “The Road Warrior” Jeffries will return to the boxing ring on March 16 to take on Chico-native Claudia Gutierrez at the Seven Feathers Casino Resort in Canyonville, Oregon.
The six-round fight will serve has a chance for Jeffries, 37, to see where she stands in the boxing world, manager Bruce Anderson said. If all goes well, it won’t be her last fight.
“She can still do it,” Anderson said. “It’s just to what extent. This will tell us and her where she is at right now.”
The fight will be one of seven matches during the event in mid-March. It will serve as an undercard.
The return to the ring has been nearly a year in the making for Jeffries after she recieved her nursing degree last June. Since then, Anderson has looked for an opportunity for to fight again. With her scheduled to receive her Bachelors degree in December, Anderson thought the time was right.
“She really wanted to do it,” he said. “She has kept in shape during the entire time she was away. She’ll be in condition.”
For the last six weeks she has been preparing specifically for the fight after the contract were signed. Anderson expects to see the best from her, he said.
“She has been getting ready,” he said. “I don’t expect any surprises. She is not going to see anything she hasn’t seen before.”
Jeffries’ professional career began in 1999. She holds a 41-10-1 record with four knockouts. She held the IFBA Featherweight and NABF Womens Super Bantamweight titles. She began amateur boxing in 1994 in Hawaii.
Jeffries’ last professional fight ended with a majority loss to Ana “The Hurricane” Julation in September 2009. Since then she focused on getting her nursing degree, graduating from Gavilan College in 2012.
