‘Baler boys foursome records 3:25.10 at the Meet of Champions
Saturday in Sacramento, and sit behind only Mitty now for the top
time in the Central Coast Section this season

The San Benito High boys 4×400 relay team clocked a 3:25.10 to take first place at the 29th annual Sacramento Meet of Champions on Saturday, and set a personal record for the season by three seconds in the process.
With a previous best of 3:28.10, San Benito’s latest time positions it with the second fastest recorded time in the Central Coast Section this season. Only Mitty’s 3:23.42 remains in front of the ‘Balers.
After its first-place finish in the boys event, the San Benito foursome later competed in the men’s 4×400 event, where it recorded a 3:25.80 and finished in eighth place.
Meanwhile, senior Courtney Allen set a personal record for this season when she ran a 5:03.72 in the 1,600 meters, placing her fourth overall in the women’s event. First place went California High’s Colleen Lillig in 4:59.46.
Allen’s time, however, was an improvement by nearly four seconds – her previous PR was a 5:07.58.
Ryan Shorey competed in a pair of events at the Sacramento meet, and set personal records for this season in both.
Shorey recorded a 50.24 in the 400 to take first in the boys event – an improvement from his 50.49 – while he finished in 10th place in the boys’ 800 with a 1:59.73, a slight improvement from his previous time of 1:59.90.
Frankie Martinez, meanwhile, competed in the men’s discus event, where he took third place with a throw of 150-01.
San Benito will return to Tri-County Athletic League action today at North Salinas at 3:30 p.m.
