Sacred Heart foundation
The Sacred Heart School Foundation will be hosting its annual “Celebrating Catholic Schools” dinner at San Juan Oaks on Nov. 2. Honorees at that time will be alumni Tom Breen and Frank Klauer, former pastor Gary Byrne, and past principal Sister Ann Vincent. Proceeds from this event will benefit the school’s financial aid program. Invitations have been sent to those on the Foundation mailing list, but the event is open to anyone who wishes to attend, so please telephone the school office (831-637-4157) to arrange for purchase a ticket if you wish to participate and support our honorees. Price per ticket is $65 or you can reserve a table for eight for $500. A limited number of tickets are available so early purchase is recommended.

BLM lifts fire restrictions
The Bureau of Land Management Hollister Field Office has lifted the seasonal fire restrictions on public lands within the Hollister Field jurisdiction specific to the Tumey, Griswold, Ciervo and Panoche hills as of Oct. 16, according to an announcement from the federal agency. All vehicle routes designated as open routes that were closed during the seasonal restrictions are open for public access. For more information contact the Hollister Field Office at (831) 630-5000.
Nominations for honors
The San Benito County Chamber of Commerce & Visitors Bureau is preparing for its 93rd Annual Dinner, Dance & Awards, which will be held on January 25, 2014, where it will honor the Man, Woman, and Businesses of the Year. According to an announcement from the chamber: The purpose of the “Man & Woman of the Year” awards is to recognize and honor a resident who has served San Benito County as a role model for continuous and outstanding volunteer service to our community. The nominees do not have to be chamber members and only past recipients of the award serve on the selection committee. The purpose of the “Business of the Year” award is to recognize and honor businesses in the county that have exhibited excellence in their business by using creativity, overcoming obstacles, excellent customer service and their community involvement. The Board of Directors for the Chamber of Commerce & Visitors Bureau will be the voting committee for Businesses of the Year. Remember, you must include your name with your nomination or the nomination will not be accepted. Fill out a nomination form and return to the chamber office or email to [email protected].
Complete Streets Plan
The Complete Streets Plan project is continuing Nov. 7 with a presentation on design concepts. The purpose of the project is to help create safe streets in the Nash Road, Tres Pinos Road, Sunnyslope Road and McCray Street areas. It is part of a program put on by the City of Hollister and funded through an outside grant. From 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Nov. 7, there will be a review of conceptual alternatives with the design team, with a poster mark-up and comments from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. It is set for the Rancho San Justo Middle School Gym, 1201 Rancho Drive. Christmas Boutique
Sunnyslope Christian Center, 1520 Sunnyslope Road, is hosting its 33rd annual Christmas Boutique from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 9. It will include Christmas items and gifts, various vendor booths, Mexican food, and pictures with Santa from 10 a.m. to noon.
